Austin Trip + Life Update

So much has happened since my last blog post, where do I even begin?

For starters, I'M MARRIED!! #OfficiallyAMrs

A ton of wedding planning and preparations were happening behind the scenes, hence the lack of posting on my blog. I would have really loved to have captured and blogged about each step of my wedding planning experience but found it extremely difficult and stressful to do so while having a full time job and planning. I'll blog all about it as soon as I get the wedding photos from the photographer, so I won't give away too many details on today's post. I did however Instagram a couple photos from the big day so definitely check those out for a sneak peek!

September 23, 2017 was our special day. I married my best friend, felt like a total princess and celebrated the most magical day of my entire existence with my family and friends!! It was also my grandmothers 84th birthday so it made that day much more special. I cannot wait until we get our photos so I can relive the moment all over again.

Honeymoon plans to the Dominican Republic had to be cancelled a week before our departure due to hurricane weather severity, luckily we purchased travel insurance and had all of our expenses refunded to us without a hassle. Not having much time to research or book a new destination we opted to stay local for a couple of days then took a road trip to our states capital, Austin, Texas. I've heard great things about Austin from friends and family who have visited but never had the pleasure of experiencing the city for myself.

September 28th my husband and I loaded up the car and headed west for about three hours, my favorite part of the road trip was seeing the change of land elevation; Austin has gorgeous green hills with winding roads the complete opposite of what you see in Houston. We arrived to our home away from home for the weekend, a cool and funky condominium we booked from Airbnb in the neighborhood of Clarksville. The location was nice and quiet, within walking distance to restaurants, parks, stores and a short drive away from downtown. Upon arriving we unloaded the car and made ourselves feel at home, we walked around the neighborhood and had an early dinner at Zocalo Cafe; I had the Tostada Salad, it was delicious!

On day two we woke up to gloomy skies and rain but we didn't let that stop us from taking the half hour drive to explore Lake Travis. The drive there was beautiful and scenic filled with lots of greenery and curvy roads set between massive hills, at times it felt like a roller coaster ride. Bob Wentz Park at Windy Point was our first stop, when we got out of the car my husband and I were taken away by the peaceful silence at the park, the only thing you could hear was the sound of the wind and gentle waves. The park was practically empty leaving us alone with only the sounds of nature. We took a dip in the lake and went for a swim, the water was refreshing though the wind and lack of sunlight made it feel chilly. After our swim we changed into dry clothes and drove to Oasis on Lake Travis for a meal with an incredible view. Much later that evening we re-energized and went out to Austin's famous "Dirty Sixth Street", 6th Street is known for it's nightlife and entertainment; we bar hopped the night away and took an Uber home.

Day three and four we checked out Barton Springs, the State Capitol and McKinney Falls.
Barton Springs is within Zilker Park, unfortunately we didn't get to explore too much of Zilker Park because most of it was closed off due to the setting up for the Austin City Limits Music Festival but we did get to enjoy the cold natural springs. While in Barton Springs my husband lost his flip-flop to the flowing creek he made it his mission to swim to the flip-flops rescue, he did recover the flip-flop. (There's more the story, it was hilarious! You had to be there.) Day four we didn't get to explore to the fullest because that was the day we were driving back home. I did manage to take some photos, enjoy.

Looking forward to the many more travels ahead with my husband. Stay inspired to travel and explore the beautiful planet we live on. Until next time my friends, take care!
